With the goal to put down another blistering performance like yesterday, Robert Doornbos was somewhat too enthusiastic in his qualifying lap at the 4,309 kilometer long Autodromo José Carlos Pace. Halfway through his 'flying lap' the 24-year old Minardi driver spun off the track in the Mergulho corner, leaving him in 20th position on the grid for the 71 lap Brazilian Grand Prix tomorrow.

Only minutes before Doornbos had to start his qualifying run, a technical problem with a sensors of the gearbox arose, which was repaired very quick by his mechanics. In his qualifying lap Doornbos initially clocked a competitive time in the first sector, before suffering from an off-track excursion in the second sector. As he missed out on his chance to set a fast laptime, Doornbos decided to prematurely abort his run.

Robert Doornbos:

"It's a shame I couldn't show the potential of the car today in qualifying. Right before my qualifying run a problem with a sensor of the gearbox arose, which was fixed very fast by my mechanics. As always in qualifying I pushed extra hard, but unfortunately I lost the control of the car as I hit a bump wrong in the second sector."

"The one thing positive though is that we've qualified ourselves with a large amount of fuel, so that we can drive a long first stint tomorrow, before having to make a pitstop."
