SUPERB QUALIFYING LAP BRINGS ROBERT DOORNBOS P17 IN SPA

A megaquick lap at the 6.976 kilometer long circuit of Spa-Francorchamps handed Robert Doornbos a deserving 17th position in today's qualifying for the Belgium Grand Prix. By clocking a lap time of 1:49.779, the Dutch Minardi driver qualified himself ahead of his teammate Christijan Albers and Jordan drivers Tiago Monteiro and Narain Karthikeyan.

Already in the third and the fourth Free Practise this morning both Minardi drivers showed an impressive speed at the famous hilly circuit in the Belgian Ardennes. In both of the sessions the two Dutchman in Italian duty matched eachothers speed by operating within only a few hundreds of a second of eachother.

With the continiously changing weather circumstances in mind, the Minardi F1 Team decided to run an aggressive strategy for tomorrow's 45 lap Belgian Grand Prix. By driving a superb lap in the PS05 at his home track, Doornbos again got the maximum out of his flying lap this afternoon.

Robert Doornbos:

"It feels really good to have qualified myself here in 17th spot ahead of my teammate and both of the Jordan drivers. Of all remaining races, this is the only event we can affort to take our chance to opt for a more aggressive tactic as usual. Despite we only ran a few laps yesterday, the team did an awesome job to get the maximum out of the car today. When it rains here tomorrow, I hope to be of a surprise to everyone at the grandstands!
