Minardi F1 driver Robert Doornbos finished the Friday Free Practises ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix in 20th position.

As halfway through the afternoon session rain hit the 5807 meter long Suzuka International Racing Course, Doornbos was only able to drive 25 laps today in which he set a fastest time of 1:35.150. With this result the 24-year old Dutchman enjoyed a comfortable lead over his teammate and both of Jordan's racedrivers.

Robert Doornbos:

"What a great circuit! Last year I also drove here of course, but in the dry corners such as 130R, Spoon and 'the Esses' are really fantastic! This morning I suffered from too much oversteer, but the team did a great job in lunchbreak to improve the car."

"In the afternoon session the car felt a lot better and I was able to attack more. Just as we mounted the new compound Bridgestone tyres, rain began to fall. The Bridgestones feel very good though, so I look forward to tomorrow!"
