Former Jaguar driver Pedro de la Rosa will test for McLaren this week at the Jerez circuit in Spain for three days. He will work alongside regular team test driver Alex Wurz but McLaren are not intending to take de la Rosa on as an official driver.

The test is said to be a one-off for the Spaniard, owing to race drivers Kimi Raikkonen and David Coulthard not returning to Europe before the next race in Malaysia.

De la Rosa was dropped by Jaguar at the end of last season, despite having another year to run on his contract. He was rumoured to be linked with a test role at Jordan as well, but is not willing to speculate on his future.

"My main aim is to race again in F1," he told his website recently. There is nothing that motivates me more. This is going to be a year of recovery. My objective is to do as many kilometres as I can in F1 to keep fit and to keep the 'feeling' of driving a F1 alive. This will make my chances of getting a seat for next season higher".
