It was back to work on the test track on July 4th, with four teams putting their test drivers through their paces at Jerez de la Frontera in Spain. McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa set the pace with a best time of 1:18.020 and fellow team tester Gary Paffett was fourth fastest. General set up and development work were their focus, along with tyres for France.

Renault's Heikki Kovalainen was second quickest, just under half a second off de la Rosa. The French squad also had development programme driver Jose Maria Lopez behind the wheel and the GP2 pilot was fifth on the time sheet.

Anthony Davidson was the lead Honda in third and development driver James Rossiter rounded off the times in seventh. They worked mainly on tyres for France and also aerodynamic evaluations. Williams was the other team present and tester Alex Wurz was sixth fastest overall.
