Fellow team test driver Alex Wurz was fourth fastest and the pair worked on tyres and dampers, completing over 150 laps between them. De la Rosa suffered an engine failure in the afternoon, which will be investigated.

The Williams duo of Mark Webber and Antonio Pizzonia were second and third on the time sheet respectively, Webber two and a half tenths down on de la Rosa. Wednesday completed the team's two day test.

"Mark, Antonio and Nico spent the two day test concentrating on brake and electronics testing as well as set-up options," said technical director Sam Michael. "The drivers also ran tyre evaluations to select the compounds for Shanghai."

Team test driver Tonio Liuzzi was on duty for Red Bull and clocked fifth overall. Toyota's Ralf Schumacher and tester Ricardo Zonta rounded off the times in sixth and seventh respectively.

At Paul Ricard in France Ferrari continued its solo session with test driver Marc Gen? working on tyres. He set a best time of 1:11.402 over 140 laps. Michael Schumacher is scheduled to take over on Thursday.
