As expected, David Coulthard has signed up to drive for Red Bull Racing in 2005. The Scot has agreed a one-year deal with the team but it's not yet known who his teammate will be. Coulthard tested for Red Bull in Spain recently and visited the factory in Milton Keynes earlier this week for a technical briefing with engineers.

Red Bull confirmed in a brief statement that the contract had been signed in Salzburg, Austria. Coulthard was quoted by Austrian news agency APA as saying: "After speaking to team owner Dietrich Mateschitz I was impressed by Red Bull Racing's plans for the future. This is definitely an exciting new team."

Coulthard has been a favourite for one of the Red Bull seats since the team decided it needed an experienced driver rather than put two youngsters behind the wheel. Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi remain the contenders for the other seat but a decision is not expected until the new year.

Coulthard started his F1 career with Williams in 1994 and moved to McLaren in 1996. He was with the Woking squad for nine years and competed in 150 Grands Prix, the most any driver has driven with one team. The Scot claimed 12 race victories in his time with McLaren.
