Carlo Chitti died on July 7 of a heart attack at the age of 70.

Chitti started his carreer at Alfa Romeo in 1951. In 1957 he joined Ferrari as chied engineer where he helped develop the 257 which Mike Hawthorn drove to the World Championship in 1958. He also developed the 156 Squalo which Phil Hill drove to his World Championship in 1961.

For 1962, Chitti left Ferrari to form ATS. ATS was a failure and he returned to Alfa in 1964. There he worked on the Giuletta TZ1, Guilia GTA, 33 Barchetta, and their F1 engine program for Brabham.

In 1984 he formed Motori Moderni which supplied turbo V8 and flat-12 engines to Minardi.
