Jenson Button has played down the rivalry between himself and team mate Jacques Villeneuve and thinks they will work together to take BAR forward. Villeneuve has been none too complimentary about Button over the winter, saying the Englishman has yet to prove himself and must perform on track to win his respect.

Not being drawn into a war of words, Button shrugs it off, saying sometimes they will get on and sometimes they won't: "I know some people have said that Jacques is difficult to work with but we have to work together to take the team forward," he told the British press.

"When we start winning races then I'm sure we'll start kicking each other. I am sure there are going to be times when we don't get along but there will be times when we work well together. If outside the circuit we do not talk it's not a big thing for me as we all have our own friends."

Button does not feel under any extra pressure from having a former champion as his team mate -- he has partnered Ralf Schumacher at Williams, Giancarlo Fisichella at Benetton and Jarno Trulli at Renault. His three years in F1 alongside drivers like that have given him confidence.

"I've always had good teammates and you expect that in Formula One," he said. "Schumacher is a race winner now, Giancarlo is ridiculously quick and so is Jarno. Those two Italians are two of the best drivers on the grid and I've measured myself against these guys so I feel relaxed."
