Jenson Button is looking for an improvement in performance after a disappointing result at the British Grand Prix. Button was hopeful for at least a podium finish after starting third on the gird but eventually came home fourth. Teammate Takuma Sato finished 11th and Button is concerned that BAR's form of the early season is being outdone by rivals.

"It seems that other people are making bigger steps forward than us. That is something we have to look at," he said. "It is more competitive now and we need to make that step forward now."

The Briton realises that other teams are making improvements but wants to know why BAR is no longer as close to Ferrari as it previously was. McLaren bounced back at Silverstone, Kimi Raikkonen taking the team's first podium of the year in second, and it's another threat to BAR.

"Fourth is not a bad result," said Button. "But we'd rather be scoring podiums and fighting with Ferrari and McLaren. We are capable of finding that extra yard and we will keep fighting. But we're struggling with low grip and we need to sort it sooner rather than later or we will lose more points to McLaren."

BAR is hoping a new package to be introduced at Hockenheim will improve its slightly flagging performance. "The engine upgrade and further car developments we will introduce at the next race should help to maintain our momentum," said team boss David Richards.

BAR will be testing this week at Jerez, Spain.
