Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa involved in massive shunt early in the British GP.
The British GP has been stopped while crews clean up the mess left from a big accident on the opening lap for Kimi Raikkonen that collected Felipe Massa.
The accident happened on the Wellington straight. Raikkonen lost control of his Ferrari as he rejoined the track after going wide and was hit by a hard-braking Massa who tried to minimize the impact.
Raikkonen's car was destroyed on the spot and the Finnish driver was able to get out, although visibly shaken and favoring his leg. Massa continued back to the pits on three wheels but retired shortly there after.
Meanwhile, crews worked for one hour to repair the safety barrier. Ferrari reported that Raikkonen suffered a bruised ankle after what is being called a 47G impact, but will race in the upcoming German GP.
The last time a Grand Prix was red flagged after the start was at Monaco in 2000. The field will restart behind the safety car.
