RenaultF1 UK's Managing Director, and team principal, Flavio Briatore will now also be MD of RenaultF1 France. Patrick Faure, chairman of RenaultF1 decided to make changes to the organization to 'more effectively the challenges of the 2003 Formula 1 World Championship.'

Jean-Jacques His, whom Briatore is taking over from, is to be appointed Director of Development for RenaultF1 France and will be exclusively in charge of engine design and development.

"Flavio Briatore, Managing Director of the Renault F1 Team UK in Enstone has been appointed Managing Director of Renault F1 Team France in Viry-Châtillon in addition to his current responsibilities," read a statement from Renault.

"The overall management of the Enstone and Viry-Châtillon units under the responsibility of Flavio Briatore will increase synergies within the team and relieve Jean-Jacques His of the management and logistical tasks involved in his current assignment."

Briatore, after marketing success in America for Benetton, was appointed commercial director to the company's F1 team in the late eighties. In the nineties he acquired Ligier, in order to access the team's supply of Renault engines, and tried his hand at running the Benetton F1 team himself, which at the time was not a success.

Briatore bought Minardi in 1996 and then sold the team to partners Gabriele Rumi and Gian Carlo Minardi. Dropped by Benetton in favour of David Richards, now BAR boss, Briatore bought Renault engines from Mecachrome and sold them under the Supertec badge. He returned to managing Benetton when Renault took over the team in 2000.
