Renault team principal Flavio Briatore has revealed that he's not interested in signing former world champion Jacques Villeneuve and would prefer his team mate Olivier Panis. After Villeneuve's manager Craig Pollock quit BAR as boss at the end of last year there was much speculation that the Canadian would follow suit; both of them were at one point linked with Renault but Briatore is happy with what he's got.

"I would prefer Panis," he said. "His performance stands up well against Villeneuve's. Our drivers, Jarno (Trulli) and Jenson (Button), are at the same level as Jacques. I don't see the point in going shopping if I've already got what I need."

Villeneuve has stated that he will honour his contract with BAR which runs out at the end of this year despite rumours to the contrary. Whether he remains for a further season depends if the changes BAR boss David Richards made recently make any difference. The team had a poor start to this year and Richards had a staff shake up -- including the departure of chief designer Andy Green and engineering director Malcolm Oastler. Jordan just followed suit in the staff department; technical director Eghbal Hamidy parted company with the team today and is rumoured to be on his way to BAR.
