Bite-size tech: Williams FW38 front wing deflection test

Williams has once again installed a camera on its front wing to evaluate deflection in free practice at Interlagos.

A set of chequerboard stickers are placed on the top edge of each element and as load is applied throughout a lap the camera records the amount of deformation that occurs.

This information can then be used to improve the stiffness of the wing, which in turn can improve the overall performance of the wing.

As we are so late into the season the collection of this data is unlikely to have any bearing on this year's car but will undoubtedly be helpful in the production of next year's wing.
