Although the 2002 season has come to an end, many of the drivers still seek the thrill of racing. This weekend, Rubens Barrichello will take to the track at the Kartodromo Internacional di Granja Viana in Brazil.

The traditional 500 mile kart race sees national and international competitors flock to the Sao Paolo track for the sixth running of this race. It is a major event with no less than thirty two teams taking part. Free practice is already underway and goes on all week.

The major attraction for the general public is the chance to see big names like Rubens Barrichello, Felipe Massa and Tony Kanaan, who are reckoned to be the hot favourites for top honours.

Rubens has actually won the 500 Miles of Granja Viana no less than three times; in 1998, 2000 and 2001, while Massa triumphed in the first edition back in 1997.

Luciano Burti's name was originally on the entry list, but the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro test driver has had to pull out as he is getting married this weekend in Belo Horizonte.

Qualifying takes place on Saturday, while the race is on Sunday, run over 746 laps, with a maximum duration of 12 hours.
