Frentzen's first practice session was cut short after only five laps, due to a persisting hydraulic problem that affected his steering. The team changed various parts during the hour break to ensure a trouble free second session Trulli's EJ11 required new barge boards after he went off the track into the gravel during the second session
Eddie Jordan also today confirmed that Benson and Hedges Jordan Honda has entered into a contract with Petrobras to develop its Lubrax lubricants for use in the Jordan Honda EJ11 cars. Commenting on this agreement, Eddie Jordan said, "In this business, technical development in every area is crucial and we are delighted to have this agreement with Lubrax to help make Jordan-Honda a winning package."
"Today was a bit frustrating as I lost so much time during the first session, but the team worked really hard during the break to rectify the problem. There are still some things to try tomorrow morning on the basic car set-up and I think the car still has more potential, but so far things are good."
"It was a difficult day as the track was dirty and the car wasn't very well balanced. We just tried to complete some long runs with heavy fuel and set-up the car for the race. There is still some work to do tomorrow but I feel confident we can do well here."
"It was a difficult day as Heinz lost most of the first session and ten minutes of the second session due to a hydraulic problem that affected the steering on his car. He did a very good job to recover positions in the last fifty minutes though. Jarno also lost time as he damaged the car's barge boards when he went off the track."
