Skip Barber Race Series veteran Antonio Pizzonia turned in the fifth quickest time in a test with the Benetton Formula 1 team Wednesday. For the first time, Pizzonia tested a F1 car in direct comparison with other current F1 racers and set an extremely competitive time at a three-day test in Valencia, Spain.

Pizzonia's time was ahead of Grand Prix race winner Heinz-Harald Frentzen and veteran Grand Prix racer Pedro Diniz. Ahead of him were Jos Verstappen, Giancarlo Fisichella, Johnny Herbert and Jarno Trulli. Pizzonia's best lap at 1:17.83 sec. was only 1.9 sec. off of Verstappen's fast time.

Pizzonia has tested a Formula One car before when he drove a 1999 spec Williams at Silverstone last fall as part of his British Formula Renault Championship prize. Attending the test were a very impressed Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head, but there were no other regular F1 drivers present for comparison.
