Tiago Monteiro sees the chequered flag again

Tiago Monteiro did not expect an easy race on the Suzuka circuit and his forecast proved to be correct. However, there was one small consolation for the Portuguese racer: he finished the Japanese Grand Prix in 14th place, ahead of his team-mate Narain Karthikeyan who started ahead of him on the grid.

Despite his misfortunes in qualifying, Tiago was satisfied with the work he accomplished this weekend, especially in the race that took place on a circuit that he had never experienced before.

"I needed maximum concentration to overcome this handicap, and I managed to finish the event despite the fact that it was a very physically demanding race," said a delighted Tiago. "I think I had a good race even if everything seemed to be against me, and I spent more time on the circuit when it was wet instead of dry."

"I managed to keep clear of the incidents in the first turn, which was good, then I set about gaining as many places as possible. I succeeded in finding a good rhythm without making any mistakes on this very technical layout, which gives me immense satisfaction."

Tiago is now preparing for the last race of the season, which will take place in China this coming weekend. "I want to finish the year on a good note. I impatiently await this race and hope that luck will be on my side."
