Testing resumed on April 6th at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya with five teams and eight drivers on track. Renault's Fernando Alonso set the best time of the day, clocking 1:15.269, just over a tenth up on BAR test driver Anthony Davidson.

Renault also had Jarno Trulli on duty, working on new aerodynamics but a hydraulic problem confined his running to the morning session. The Italian, who was third fastest, used the new specification RS24 engine and felt it was improvement on the previous unit. Alonso focused on new settings on the chassis development and a short tyre programme.

McLaren had two cars present, test driver Alex Wurz and Pedro de la Rosa fourth and sixth respectively. David Coulthard is due to join later in the week. The pair of silver cars were split by the Ferrari of Luca Badoer. It was the first time for the F2004 at the Spanish circuit and Badoer worked on set up and tyres.

Toyota was the other team present today, tester Ricardo Zonta and race driver Olivier Panis seventh and eighth respectively. Zonta racked up the most laps of the day, 103, with Alonso the second most active on 101. Williams and Jaguar are expected to join the test tomorrow.
