Fernando Alonso has joined McLaren teammate Jenson Button in facing a 25-place grid penalty for the Austrian Grand Prix.
The Spaniard had started the final free practice session knowing he already had a 20-place grid penalty for an engine change required for the Red Bull Ring event.
But after stopping on the start-finish straight on Saturday morning with a car problem, McLaren has discovered that he will require a new gearbox.
That will mean an extra five-place penalty for him, meaning he will now be moved back a total of 25 places.
With it impossible for him to take the full penalty after qualifying, he will have to take an extra punishment in the race, most likely a stop-go depending on where he ends up after Saturday's running.
