The afternoon session started bright and sunny. Fisichella did an early installation lap in the repaired EJ12 on the damp byt drying track. The sound of the FW24 could be heard in the background testing on the South Circuit in preparation for tomorrow's launch.

Fisichella soon came out for a couple of laps and was joined by Sato, who completed laps and consistantly improved by a total of 3 seconds over this run, apart from a 10 second delay on his third lap. He lapped some four seconds faster than Giancarlo and was clearly pushing very hard. The traction control kicked in many times, more frequently as the times got faster.

Both cars were out again a few minutes later, Sato sliding round a lot under braking. Fisichella was more smoother, and both drivers lapped in around 1m 32.

Sato then started an 8 lap run at a blistering pace. He improved on every lap and finally set a 1:26.54, six seconds faster than the early afternoon laps. He was flying through the corners and looked extremely quick. He then pitted for a practice stop and then drove back round the circuit to return to the garage. Fisichella also did a couple of laps two seconds quicker than before.

Sato came back again soon afterwards and again was extremely fast, running very smoothly through the corners with little traction control. His best lap was 1:26.60, marginally slower than before, and then did a practice pitstop.

He improved this time to 1:26.59 in his next two lap run, and Fisichella also improved to 1:27.32 soon afterwards.

Shortly after 4pm one of the cars stopped when doing a practice start leaving the pits.

The last action of the day was from Fisichella who did two laps and set his fastest time of the day, 1:26.66. The track was cold but the Italian flew round and looked extremely confident. The session ended soon after due to poor light.
