Jonathan Wheatley, the Renault F1 Team's chief mechanic, collected the trophy for winning constructor yesterday at Magny-Cours. He talks about the experience...

Q: Jonathan, how was the podium ceremony for you?

JW: It was a fantastic experience! It was not something I ever thought I would get to see. Then, on the last lap, Flavio called me over and asked me to go to the podium to collect the trophy for the team. It was a fantastic gesture, and I've already had over thirty text messages from my friends...

Q: Was it a way of acknowledging all the team's mechanics, through you?

JW: Definitely. Everybody, from the most junior mechanic to the most important engineers, has really worked hard this year. We want to do the best possible job, find problems with the car and sort them out, get the pit-stops perfect... We are only a small team, fighting against much bigger rivals at McLaren and Ferrari.

Q: You also know one of the other drivers who was on the podium yesterday...

JW: It's true. I was number 2 mechanic on Michael Schumacher's car when he won the title in 1994 and 1995. He looked at me, amused, and said: "Is this your first time on the podium?" I said: "Yes, how about you?" He laughed and said, "I've done it a few times before..."
