Another second place for Vanthoor in F3 Euro Series
ZANDVOORT. 22nd AUGUST 2010. For the second consecutive time Laurens Vanthoor clinched a second place in the F3 Euro Series. In the first race the RACB National Team Driver finished in seventh place on the Dutch sand dune circuit and on Sunday scored a well deserved podium place, his second in two meetings. Laurens Vanthoor is presently ranked sixth in the F3 Euro Series prior to travelling over the Brands-Hatch in a fortnight's time.
In the qualifying sessions Laurens Vanthoor once again registered a place amongst the front rows. "I was lying in second place for a long time, but near the end of the session I slid back a couple of places; a pity, especially on a track such as the Circuitpark Zandvoort where overtaking is not easy. I'm particularly keen on this circuit, and even from the second row you can still achieve a strong result. I'm really looking forward to the races."
The first race, traditionally held on the Saturday, did not meet Laurens Vanthoor's expectations. The young Belgian Signature VW driver finally crossed the line in seventh place.
Laurens Vanthoor: "At the start I took the outside line seeing the cars ahead of me appeared to be hindering each other on the inside of the Tarzan bend. I came out of it perfectly and was heading up into third spot until Sims nudged me from behind. I spun and then started on a catch-up race, finally finishing in seventh place. A pity, all the more so as this isn't the first time that someone has hit at the start, resulting in my chances going up in smoke. The only positive outcome is that tomorrow we'll be starting from the front row and that's a great starting off point for the race. I'm now off to recharge my batteries in order to score well tomorrow."
At the start of race 2 Laurens Vanthoor lost his second place for a moment, but following a brilliant overtaking manoeuvre on Carlos Munoz he was back in second place. Vanthoor then reduced the difference with race leader Felix Da Costa to less than half a second.
Laurens Vanthoor: "Actually I wanted to win today, but all in all a second place is pretty good. Right in the beginning I was able to overtake Carlos Mu
