Will Rosenqvist catch up in the battle for the title, at the North Sea coast?
The circuit of Zandvoort, Netherlands, embedded into the North Sea dunes, is the venue of the eighth race meeting of the 2013 FIA Formula 3 European Championship season.

At the 4.307-kilometre circuit, Sweden’s Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) feels particularly good. This weekend, he wants to close in on championship leader Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam). The Italian currently holds a 72.5-point lead over his Swedish opponent. Meanwhile, local hero Dennis van de Laar (Van Amersfoort Racing) is determined to also score as many points as possible, in front of his home crowd.
In the battle for the Formula 3 European Championship title, Raffaele Marciello, a Ferrari Driver Academy protégé, underlined his position as favourite by winning all the three races of the Nürburgring weekend held in mid-August. At Zandvoort, however, the 18-year-old hasn’t been too successful, in the past. In the four races he contested at the dune circuit so far, the young gun born in Zurich secured just one podium by finishing second. While his rival Rosenqvist celebrated three wins at Zandvoort, in the past three years, and travels to the Netherlands with ambitious goals.
On the international grid of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, Dennis van de Laar and his team, Van Amersfoort Racing, are the only ones representing the Dutch colours. Van de Laar lives just a few kilometres away from the circuit. From this weekend, he will have a new team-mate: the German Sven Müller. The new pairing proved to be a competitive combination as early as during the mid-season tests at Hockenheim where they secured positions far up on the time sheets.
At the same time, Alfonso Celis (Fortec Motorsports) will make his FIA Formula 3 European Championship debut, this weekend. The 17-year-old Mexican advances from the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC.
Dennis van de Laar (Van Amersfoort Racing): “The race weekend at Zandvoort represents a true home event for me as I really am living there. Therefore, it goes without saying hat I’m looking forward to the weekend. I want to drive three fine races and give my very best to secure the best possible results. And due to the good days of testing at Hockenheim I’m optimistic that I will be able to do so.”
