London, UK – September 30, 2013 – Red Bull Junior driver Tom Blomqvist finished the weekend with a ninth and a couple of eighths at the historic Circuit Park Zandvoort.
The 19-year-old spent the weekend struggling for speed. In both Race 1 and 2 he qualified ninth and was able to get good starts, making up a couple of positions. Unfortunately he took a gamble in the first race and took the outside of turn one and got nudged wide, losing five spots, resulting in a ninth place finish.
Blomqvist started the third race from eighth place and lost a position at the start. With the car in front getting a penalty, he moved back to eighth and then gained a spot when the yellow flag came out. Blomqvist was passed again on the restart and with just a lap left had no chance to fight his way back. He crossed the line in eighth and picked up some valuable championship points.
“It’s been a pretty tough weekend,” said Blomqvist. “We have to really take a hard look at things and see where we are missing the speed. I am hoping that I have a better weekend when we race at Vallelunga.
The EuroInternational driver now sits seventh in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The penultimate round of the European Championship will take place 12-13 October at Vallelunga in Italy.
