Launching the new Formula 3 Volkswagen engine with Jonathan Summerton as official driver was a great experience. All the press and spotlight on this new engine just added to the excitement. Going into the weekend Jonathan knew the engine was good, but, "As we hadn't raced against the other engines we didn't know where we stood", said Jonathan. "During the practice we had to try to get the set up correct and we had a few teething problems. To enter F3 Euro series, the most competitive series in the world, with a new team and new engine was a very optomistic challenge.

Unfortunately, during practice the officials said that 5 drivers went too fast in a yellow flag area due to a drying track and times went faster. They decided to knock all the drivers back 5 places on the grid. Jonathan qualified 13th less than 2/10s second off being in the top 8 of the grid. Jonathan had a good start, but going into turn 1 was rear ended causing much damage to the floor, sidepod, and closing up the exhaust. However, Jonathan continued, starting from the back and working his was back up to 18th. "Yes, it was disappointing to get hit but I finished the race and the engine performed really well."

For race 2 Jonathan started from the 9th row. Again, going into turn 1 he was rear ended damaging the rear wing, but Jonathan's times were as fast or faster than the leaders, finishing 15th with the 7th fastest lap times. "Again, this proves that it will only be a short time before we get a podium and Volkwagen are rewarded for their hard work in making such a great engine."
