Rosenqvist can also win at Norisring

On lap 14, the Swede made the decisive move when he started an attack on Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) for the lead and went past. Marciello took the chequered flag in second from his team-mate Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam). The Italian, a protégé of the Ferrari Driver Academy, remains the leader in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship points’ standings. He currently has 24.5 points more to his tally than Rosenqvist, his closest rival.

At the start, Marciello still had the upper hand, taking the lead from pole position followed by Rosenqvist and Lynn. This order only was to change on lap 14, when Rosenqvist was able to overtake Marciello as the latter had made a mistake under braking. After that, the Mücke driver brought an undisputed victory home. Just before the start of the third race at Norisring, he had received the message that his disqualification from qualifying had been rescinded.

In the third race of the Norisring weekend, the young drivers again showed nice manoeuvres and entertained the spectators with good racing. Tom Blomqvist (Eurointernational), Alexander Sims (ThreeBond with T-Sport) and Lucas Auer (Prema Powerteam) battled for fourth to sixth place until the chequered flag was out. Eventually, Blomqvist secured fourth place. Sims claimed fifth with an overtaking manoeuvre just before the finish line while Auer had to make do with sixth. Luis Felipe Derani (Fortec Motorsports), Harry Tincknell (Carlin) and Sven Müller (ma-con) rounded out the top ten.

“For me, it was a good race and my car was really great. This weekend was an emotional roller-coaster for me. It started with disqualification in qualifying and ended with disqualification being rescinded and victory in the third race. I had never expected to be the driver going home with the most points from the track that didn’t particularly suit me to date.”

“After the start, I was in front, but Felix was simply faster and I couldn’t defend my lead when he attacked. Thus, second place was the only thing left for me. Until the Nürburgring, we will try to improve our car and then attack again.”

“My start was good, which is making me particularly happy, because that wasn’t my strength at the start of the year. Unfortunately, I had some problems with the brakes in the first few laps, because I started the race with new brake pads that first had to reach the right temperature. After that, I could increase the pressure on Felix and Raffaele in front of me, but I have to admit that today, Felix was simply too fast for me and has deserved this win.”
