In both qualifyings for the season rounds 22, 23 and 24 of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at the 4.307 kilometres long Circuit Park Zandvoort, Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) presented himself in good shape. The Swede came out on top both in the ranking of the second-fastest laps of first qualifying and in second qualifying. Red Bull junior driver Daniil Kvyat (Carlin) was classified second each time. Previously, the Russian had set the fastest time in first qualifying, with Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam) in second place.

Starting grid for race 1

Daniil Kvyat (1:30.653 minutes) moved up into the lead just after the halfway point and defended this position until the end of the session. Behind the Russian, Alex Lynn (1:31.054 minutes) only moved up into second place in the final minute and toppled Felix Rosenqvist (1:31.121 minutes), who ended up third. In fourth place, Jordan King (Carlin, 1:31.226 minutes) also secured himself a spot on the second row of the grid. Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam, 1:31.302 minutes) had to make do with fifth place, after he still was eighth just before the end. He is sharing the third row on the grid for the first race with Harry Tincknell (Carlin, 1:31.312 minutes). After an excursion by Lucas Wolf (URD Rennsport, 1:32.295 minutes), the session was briefly interrupted.

Starting grid for race 2

In the ranking of the second-fastest laps in first qualifying, Felix Rosenqvist (1:31.133 minutes) was unbeatable. Daniil Kvyat (1:31.263 minutes) claimed second place from three British drivers: Alex Lynn (1:31.288 minutes), Jordan King (1:31.354 minutes) and Harry Tincknell (1:31.394 minutes). Luis Felipe Derani (Fortec Motorsports, 1:31.535 minutes) was classified sixth. Thus, the Brazilian ranked one place ahead of Marciello (1:31.544 minutes), who will be starting the second race from seventh place on the grid.

Starting grid for race 3

Felix Rosenqvist (1:30.242 minutes) dominated second qualifying. As the chequered flag was out, the Mücke driver had an advantage of 0.427 seconds over Daniil Kvyat (1:30.669 minutes). Jordan King (1:30.721 minutes) and Alex Lynn (1:30.755 minutes) line up for an all-British second row on the grid and will start the race ahead of Raffaele Marciello (1:30.786 minutes), who was classified fifth in second qualifying. Harry Tincknell (1:30.877 minutes) ended up sixth.

Daniil Kvyat (Carlin)
“It was a good session. I felt at ease from the very beginning and claimed pole for the first race. After the red flags in first qualifying, it wasn’t easy, but in spite of the traffic, I ended up second in the ranking of the second-fastest laps. To be honest, I hadn’t expected to come second in second qualifying. Now, my goal is to win the races. This is my first time with a Formula 3 car at this track and I really like it.”

Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport)
“First qualifying wasn’t optimal, because I wasn’t able to use the tyres in the right way at the start. After the red flag, André Rudersdorf got in my way in the final corner and Alex Lynn overtook me. Second qualifying was really good. I reckon it was a nearly perfect lap.”
