Robert Doornbos takes another 3 points!
After his first seasonal podium (2nd in Race1) achieved at Hockenheim last 26th April, Robert Doornbos contested Round 2 of the F.3 Euro Series championship this weekend at Adria International Speedway.
The Dutch talented driver surprised his opponents with a stunning start in Race1 that pulled him from 14th place on the grid to 5th position at lap 2 by passing 9 cars at the green lights. "The race today was a little 'casino'" -- commented Robert -- "Despite the wet track conditions I was very fast with slick tires and I was able to overtake 9 cars at the start. I was trying to keep my 5th position when I was touched by Pla, at lap 3, and I damaged my front wing, and stopped me from moving more forwards".
Having qualified 10th for Race2 Robert was confident to gain some more points and to storm to top positions in the Drivers' table. Also under sunny conditions Robert was able to make an amazing start and drove all his race with great determination finishing in a strong 6th position on the chequered flag. "I made another brilliant start, today" -- said -- "I passed 4 cars and so I was able to climb up to 6th place that I managed to maintain until the end. Unfortunately Alexandre Premat, who was just driving ahead of me, carried a lot more downforce so I wasn't able to catch up on him. Anyway my target today was to gain as much points as possible and it is what I did. The car was not as good as it was in Hockenheim, but finishing again into the point zone (3rd pointscoring out of 4 races) gives me another boost for the championship".
Robert will now be preparing for Round 3 that will take place in Pau next 7-9 June where Robert last year achieved an important target resulting the best rookie in the German F.3 Championship.
Race1: 10th position (qualified 14th)
Race2: 6th position (qualified 10th) -- 3 points
The result of race2 in Adria leaves Robert into 6th position in the championship with 12 points.
Next race: June 7-9, Pau (France)
