Robert Doornbos, 3rd quickest in testing day 1 at A1 Ring, completes a productive 2 day testing

Team Ghinzani driver Robert Doornbos completed a successful two-day test at A1 Ring this week, in preparation of the up-coming races that will take place at the Norisring circuit (Round 4) this weekend.

The young 21 years old Dutchman, after having scored another point in the Drivers classification with his best 8th place in Race 1 at the battled and competitive race in Pau last week, used the two-day sessions mainly as an opportunity to test parts, different set-up and strategies, besides to run laps in preparation for the Norisring street circuit in Nuremberg, Germany.

A very motivated Robert Doornbos recorded an impressive 3rd fastest time in Day 1, just behind German Winkelhock (with whom Robert undertook an exciting battle at Pau - race 2) and French Prémat at a speed of 186,844 km/h. "I'm happy for today testing sessions" - said a delighted Robert - "We have done a good job on the car and I was able to record the 3rd fastest time just behind Winkelhock and Prémat. Tomorrow we will pursue on our development programme: we will make some modifications at the set-up". In Day 2 the track was quicker and the lap times dropped of one second on the Austrian track of A1 Ring. Robert Doornbos and his team used this second testing day to try some big modifications on the car looking for a better setup for the street circuit of Norisring. Robert run many laps in the morning session and focused less on all lap times. In the afternoon session he could run only 5 laps because he spun off damaging his Dallara. "My car was really good in day 1" - he explained - "but the setup was good for the A1 Ring track and not for Norisring, which is a street circuit and a little bit more slippery, so we changed a lot on the car. In the morning I had the 3rd lap time but in the 2nd session I damaged my car so I could not run a lot".
