Two Victories for Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton in the French ASM team's Dallara Mercedes won the third and fourth rounds of the Formula 3 Euro Series at Pau, France. On Saturday, he came home ahead of Dallara-Opel drivers Loic Duval and James Rossiter. On Sunday, Hamilton won ahead of his team mate Adrian Sutil and Duval. It were victories 27 and 28 for the Mercedes-Benz Formula 3 engine M271 developed from the production engine of the C- and E-Class. After four of 20 races this year, Hamilton leads the championship with 37 points ahead of Rossiter with 26.

Race 1: Starting from pole position Hamilton accelerated into an immediate lead. On lap four, he posted the fastest lap of the race with a 1:11.353 and continuously extended his gap ahead of the field to 9.390sec after 25 laps. Hamilton's team mate Adrian Sutil was second on the grid, but made a poor start and was hit by Esteban Guerrieri on the front straight. He retired with a broken right front suspension. Lucas di Grassi in a Manor Motorsport Dallara Mercedes came home fifth. His team mate Paul di Resta who was ahead of the Brazilian in the beginning made a mistake when changing gears on lap eight and dropped to 14th. Formula 3 rookie Sebastian Vettel in a Mucke Motorsport Dallara Mercedes improved from 11th on the grid to seventh at the chequered flag. In the closing stages, Vettel was faster than Giedo van der Garde (Dallara-Opel) ahead of him, but on the narrow street circuit he was not able to pass.

Race 2: After qualifying second, Sutil took the lead at the start and was first at the first corner ahead of pole sitter Hamilton. Sutil led with a gap of less than half a second when Hamilton attacked at the beginning of lap eight and went by. Hamilton extended his lead to 4.0sec. at the chequered flag. He has now achieved three victories this season and five in his Formula 3 career. After his team mate's attack Sutil hit the barrier slightly but maintained second position. He eventually came home in this place. Di Grassi ended up seventh. His team mate di Resta slid off the track on the formation lap when he had to brake due to a slower car in front of him and was not able to start the race. Mucke Motorspoert drivers Vettel and Atila di Abreau finished 12th and 13th respectively. Hannes Neuhauser im Dallara Mercedes von HBR came home 15th.

Adrian Sutil (ASM): "Unfortunately I made a poor start yesterday and had to retire after the accident. When Lewis passed me today, I touched the tyre barrier but there was no damage to the car. I'm happy to score eight points and look forward to Spa next weekend."
