Erik Janis is just a point behind leader of the rookies after Pau
Erik Janis, the Mucke Motorsport racer, is holding the second position in the rookie standings after the third Euro Series F3 packed race. While yesterday he did not finish the race due to the uncaused accident, he was third in the rookies today and twelth in total. The twenty year old Mercedes Benz junior came to stay silver continuously, whereas he is missing a point to his team colleague and the rookie leader Mika Maki. There was heavy rain on the street track today and Erik, after yesterday's crash, was fifteenth on the grid. His chances to overtake on a narrow circuit full of water were minimal.
Erik Janis: "While yesterday we were driving on the drying track, for today's race it was heavily raining. Because of the rain and tyre heating, the race started behind the safety car, after which we circled for three laps. When the safety car drove back to the stalls and the race was started I didn't see anything at all in that water shield. I had started fifteenth, so directly in the middle. Later we all overspread a bit, so I could see better. I had no intentions to risk today. There is a very little chance to overtake on a narrow street track in heavy rain. Thus, I kept my rhythm, gained experience and basically waited for the rivals' mistakes. There were not many of them, so I didn't move up. The next race is on other street circuit Norisring in a month's time. This one is markedly different from Pau. It will be a new racing place for me again, I am already looking forward there."
Antonin Charouz, driver manager: "Although I was in Le Mans, I watched today's race on TV. I can say just this -- there was no way to overtake in such conditions. I am glad that Erik made it to the finish and gained some experience."
