Erik Janis speeding up at Pau
Erik Janis has had two quite different free practice sessions today. While in the first session he was mainly learning about the street track of Pau in the south of France, his afternoon drive was much sharper. The result is the twelfth time out of the 30 cars today. The twenty year old Mucke Motorsport racer did enjoy a short challenging circuit, which meant his premiere. There will be two weekend races at Pau and he believes he will fight out a good starting position in the qualifying.
Erik's first free practice time 1:15,306 meant the twenty second place. In the second free practice he moved on 1:13,291 and ended up twelfth. He is now fifth out of 10 rookies. The qualifying for the first race starts at 9.35 tomorrow morning.
Erik Janis: "Firstly I concentrated on learning the track. In the second free practice I tried to speed up a little bit. I am really glad I made much better time. The Pau circuit has an extraordinary atmosphere. I hope I will manage to speed up more tomorrow and have a good qualifying time. That will be very important for the race."
Peter Mucke, Team principal: "It wasn't bad in the beginning at all. Erik was learning about the track in the first practice, then speeding up visibly. I guess he could be even better in tomorrow'race. Starting with an F3 car on the street track at Pau is not that easy, however, Erik is doing great so far."
