First pole for Valtteri Bottas in 2010

17.09.2010 - With a margin of over half a second, Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix, 1:20.412 minutes) secured himself pole position for the 15th season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. In the final second, Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix, 1:21.016 minutes) moved up into second place ahead of António Félix da Costa (Motopark Academy, 1:21.987 minutes), who ended up as the best-placed rookie.

Points' leader Edoardo Mortara (Signature, 1:21.708 minutes), who can win an early title at the 3.696 kilometres long track, set the ninth fastest lap time. His only remaining rival Marco Wittmann (Signature, 1:21.770 minutes) occupied tenth place.

At Oschersleben, Valtteri Bottas claimed his first pole position of the season. Thanks to the bonus point that the Finn scored for this fastest time, the two times' winner of the Masters of Formula 3 is now only eleven points down on Marco Wittmann, who is runner-up in the drivers' standings. Behind Bottas, Sims and Félix da Costa, Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam, 1:21.166 minutes) confirmed his good shape: the Spaniard beat his compatriot Roberto Merhi (Mucke Motorsport, 1:21.193 minutes), who was fifth.

Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix): "Due to the rain, I hardly could complete one lap at a dry track this morning. Nevertheless, the set-up of my car was spot-on right away. For the second set of tyres, we even managed to make a slight improvement. I think that my lap time was pretty good. Tomorrow, my goal is to win."

Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix): "At a track like this, being on the front row of the grid is very important. My lap was not too bad, but with 0.6 seconds, my gap to Valtteri is very impressive. Currently, I can't explain it."

António Félix da Costa (Motopark Academy): "I know this track very well from my days in Formula Renault and I am really happy to have achieved my best qualifying result in the Formula 3 Euro Series here. Scoring a podium finish in a race on Saturday is my goal."
