F3: Erik Janis to focus on qualifying
Erik Janis and his almost 30 rivals in the F3 Euro Series championship are entering the second half of the season. The sixth event of the year takes place at Nurburgring, Germany. The young guns are fighting there during the DTM weekend. The young Czech Mucke Motorsport driver put his sights firmly on the qualifying, as he wants to learn from previous experience. He feels that the qualifying has been his weakest point so far.
In the races he is able to set lap times in the top 6 and he wants to show the same performance in the qualifying. The twenty years old Mercedes Benz junior driver is heading to the Northern Germany second in the rookie championship. He is just two points behind team-mate Mika Maki. Erik and his rivals will use the shorter version of the track which is 3639 metres long.
Erik Janis: "I learned Nurburgring when I raced there with a Formula BMW, I liked it and now I am going back after five years. My focus will be on Friday's qualifying. It was not my strongest point and I must improve there. I am able to lap quickly and consistently during the races but it is not enough in such competitive championship. It is important to be in the front in order to convert good race to a good result."
Peter Mucke, Team Principal: "Erik is a very good race, his lap times during races are consistently among the quickest six drivers which is great in the rookie season. We must improve qualifying in order to start from positions which can bring points. I hope we will manage it already this weekend."
