One-two win for Volkswagen drivers Mortara and Wittmann
The lead has been extended: Volkswagen driver Edoardo Mortara won the seventh race of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the Norisring and thus extended his overall lead. The Italian from the Volkswagen Signature team converted his pole position at the Nuremberg city street circuit into a perfect start-finish victory - marking his third triumph in the current season. Marco Wittmann from Markt Erlbach (Germany) secured the one-two win for Volkswagen in his Dallara Volkswagen which has an approximate power output of 210 hp.
Edoardo Mortara's race weekend has been going perfectly so far: fastest time in free practice, fastest time in qualifying and the second race win of the season on Saturday. The racer who is Swiss by choice has 50 points under his belt now and keeps ranking in an uncontested first place in the standings of the junior racing series in front of Marco Wittmann (34). The German had started into the race from position three. After a safety car period the 20-year-old took advantage of the re-start in the race's final phase to overtake Valtteri Bottas from Finland (ART Grand Prix/Mercedes).
