Podium position for Vernay - two fourth places for Hartley

Wolfsburg (31 May 2009).The young drivers "powered by Volkswagen" successfully finished the second race weekend of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the EuroSpeedway with a podium position and three additional points finishes. Jean Karl Vernay (France/Team Signature) mounted the winners' podium in third place on Saturday and on Sunday was deprived of scoring an additional good result by a collision in which he was not at fault. Red Bull Junior Brendon Hartley (New Zealand/Carlin Motorsport) clinched two fourth places in the races, thus scoring his first points this season.

After an accident in qualifying, the Finn Mika Maki (Signature) had to start to the race from the rear of the grid and showed a remarkable recovery at the wheel of his Dallara F308 Volkswagen which made him advance to twelfth place. On Sunday, the Red Bull Junior grabbed a championship point with a sixth-place finish. His team-mate Tiago Geronimi (Brazil) qualified in ninth place and on Saturday barely missed scoring points. On Sunday the rookie - after a collision and a drive-through - was classified in 24th place. Jake Rosenzweig (USA/Carlin Motorsport) finished the races in 21st and 15th place. Carlo van Dam (the Netherlands/Kolles & Heinz Union) achieved 19th place twice while his new team-mate Johan Jokinen (Denmark) was unable to contest one of the races: On the way to the grid on Saturday the onboard fire extinguishing system of his car suddenly went off on its own and made it impossible for him to start, on Sunday Jokinen finished in 18th place.

Kris Nissen, Volkswagen Motorsport Director:
"We can be very happy with the competitiveness of the Volkswagen team this weekend. Brendon Hartley, for instance, showed two good races. That our strong performance is not more clearly reflected in the results is - not least - due to our lack of luck in qualifying or due to collisions in the race. The season is still long and the Formula 3 Euro Series more balanced this year than ever. We're looking forward to a championship that will remain packed with exciting action."

#3 - Mika Maki (FIN) - Volkswagen Dallara F308 - Team Signature
Qualifying: not classified - race 1: 12th place - race 2: 6th place

"My speed this weekend was very good but, unfortunately, my slip in qualifying prevented better results. In the first race, I advanced from position 28 on the grid to twelfth, and in the second from twelfth to sixth. At the end of the day, one point is better than nothing and I'm confident that we'll be among the front runners again at the upcoming races."

#4 - Jean Karl Vernay (F) - Volkswagen Dallara F308 - Team Signature
Qualifying: 4th place - race 1: 3rd place - race 2: 12th place

"I'm basically happy. We were running at the front of the field in qualifying and in the first race I was on the podium. The second race went well also until I was suddenly spun. The potential was probably higher. This shows that our performance is currently very good and I'm very optimistic for the upcoming races. The next race on the schedule is the Formula 3 Masters at Zandvoort, which I'm really looking forward to."

#15 - Brendon Hartley (NZL) - Volkswagen Dallara F308 - Team Carlin Motorsport
Qualifying: 7th place - race 1: 4th place - race 2: 4th place

"Two fourth places have earned me important points after my start to the season was not particularly successful. We need to improve a bit more but we're heading in the right direction. That's why I'm looking forward to the next circuits on the calendar."
