Summerton Shines in England

A glorious British weekend for rounds 7 and 8 of the Formula 3 Euro Series. With temperatures in the high 80s the crowds were out in the thousands.

Racing in the UK for the first time Jonathan once again showed his ever increasing potential. By lap 6 of the first practice he was already in the top 5 lap times despite there being several British F3 drivers out to show their skills and take advantage of the home track.

In qualifying, as the cars slowly wittled down the times, there were several cars within thousands of a second. By halfway Jonathan was 2nd fastest, less than 9/100 second off pole. As he changed his tires for the second stint he went out like all drivers searching to get a clean lap. Going into turn 1 the car in front went off and came back on in a cloud of dust dumping a load of stones in the braking zone for the hairpin. Jonathan, hitting these as braking, caused him to slide into the gravel trap ending his excellent session. By the time the other drivers had run down the fuel Jonathan's time placed him in P12 less than 3/10 of a second off the pole.

Jonathan said it was an unfortunate incident that stopped him and felt he could have been well in the top three times.

Race 1:

Starting from P12 at Brands is a very awkward place but Jonathan had a fantastic start gaining 2 places by turn one but there he had to give way as he was squashed by cars on both sides leaving him no alternative than to slow down rather than be involved in a crash. As the cars raced around this track, few managed a pass due to the tightness of the track. Thus, at the line nearly all the cars were in the positions they started with Jonathan in 12th.

Race 2:

Jonathan, again 12th on the grid, had a good start gaining 2 cars by the 1st corner. Going into the second he got pushed to the outside and lost one position but due to a car jumping the start in front of him he gained another. He continually pushed the car in front but was unable to pass. Jonathan ended up finishing 10th out of 24 which was a great result considering the unlucky qualifying.

Afterwards Jonathan's engineer commented, "Jonathan has the potential, he has speed and is definitely a pleasure to work with. It is just a matter of time before we see him on the podium."

Next race is Norrisring
