Again the Prema Powerteam drivers were the ones to beat in the final race of the weekend at Brands Hatch!
Prema Powerteam was the dominating squad in the fourth season meeting of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Brands Hatch in Great Britain. Drivers of the Italian team racked up all three race wins. However, a technical infringement on the car of Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) troubled the spirits at the end of the weekend. In spite of his exclusion from race 3, the Italian remains the undisputed points’ leader with 77.5 points.
In the third race, things didn’t go so well anymore for the successful Italian team. Points’ leader Marciello moved up into the lead of the field at the start, but on lap 15, Alex Lynn spun while in second place and retired. That gave Harry Tincknell (Carlin) the chance to become the first non-Prema driver to score a podium finish during the weekend. The trio eventually took the chequered flag with Marciello ahead of Auer and Tincknell. After the race, technical irregularities were identified on the winner’s car and the 18-year old protégé of the Ferrari Driver Academy was excluded. Victory went to his team-mate Lucas Auer. Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) inherited the final podium slot and remains second in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship drivers’ standings behind points’ leader Marciello.
As some young drivers hadn’t slowed down sufficiently when the yellow flags were out following an accident of Måns Grenhagen (Van Amersfoort Racing) in the third race, eleven drive through penalties were given. Lucas Wolf (URD Rennsport) scored his best season result by finishing sixth while the two rookie drivers Roy Nissany (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) and André Rudersdorf (ma-con) celebrated their first points in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Israeli Nissany finished eighth, German Rudersdorf was classified tenth. Season rounds 13 to 15 will take place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria in a fortnight.
