First Formula 3 victory for Volkswagen driver Marco Wittmann

Volkswagen driver Marko Wittmann from the Signature team clinched a commanding start-finish victory in the third race of the Formula 3 Euro Series season at the Hockenheimring. "I had a bit of a poor start and lost my position to Juncadella but was able to overtake him at the end of the straight again. That was the key to success," said Wittman who hails from Markt Erlbach (Germany).

Edoardo Mortara completed Volkswagen's one-two win. "I didn't have a really good start. I managed to overtake Juncadella and Marko for a short time but then had brief body contact with Marko and wasn't able to maintain my position," said Wittmann's team colleague Mortara. Still, the Italian managed to make up one position and then finished the remainder of the race in second place unchallenged.

Wittmann crossed the finish line with a 6.4-second lead over Edoardo Mortara and 11.5 seconds in front of the third-placed Valtteri Bottas (Finland) from the ART Grand Prix team. The 20-year-old Volkswagen racer increased his tally to 23 points, equalling Edoardo Mortara's with whom he now leads the standings of the still young Formula 3 Euro season.
