Two podium places for Volkswagen at season opener

With his two third-place finishes at the Hockenheim season opener, Edoardo Mortara clinched the first podium positions for Volkswagen in the Formula 3 Euro Series. After two races, the Italian (Signature-Plus) leads the drivers´ standings as well, with the same points score as the Finn Mika Maki (Dallara-Mercedes). The Frenchman Franck Mailleux (Signature-Plus), another driver "powered by Volkswagen", captured two fourth places, thus completing the good start of the brand from Wolfsburg to its first full season after making its Formula 3 comeback in September 2007.

Niclas Olsson wins 100th race of "touring car school"

The Swede Niclas Olsson won the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup season opener - the 100th race of the "touring car school" - at Hockenheim that was marked by extremely close fights, numerous slipstream duels and bold overtaking manoeuvres. Places two and three were clinched by the German Alexander Rambow and Andreas Simonsen from Sweden. Jorg Schriek won the rookie classification.

Volkswagen Junior Rast triumphs at Hockenheim

Victorious start for Volkswagen Junior Rene Rast: the 21-year-old from Steyerberg (Germany,) 2005 champion of the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup, converted his pole position into a commanding victory after 18 laps in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland´s first race of the season.

Places two and four for Volkswagen Junior Jimmy Johansson

The Volkswagen Juniors started to the 2008 SEAT Leon Supercopa with good results: the 23-year-old Swede Jimmy Johansson, Polo Cup champion of the 2006 season, proved his talent by clinching second and fourth place. The German Constantin Dressler - like Johansson a driver supported by Volkswagen Motorsport - achieved positions seven and eleven. In the second race last year´s 19-year-old Polo Cup title winner was struck by misfortune when, while running in position fifth, he lost ground due to a tyre puncture.

Good test in Hungary

In preparation for the Central Europe Rally (20 to 26 April) Volkswagen completed satisfactory tests in Hungary. Carlos Sainz (E) and Giniel de Villiers (RSA) each performed a day and a half of setup work for the Race Touareg to prepare for the 2,600-kilometre rally. Before the tests, the A.S.O., who organises the event, had eliminated the special stages around the Romanian town of Sovata in the Carpathian mountains from the rally´s route at short notice due to heavy snowfalls.
