Vanthoor ends the season with a podium
Laurens Vanthoor finished off his first year in the F3 EuroSeries with a fifth podium place of the season. On Sunday Vanthoor took the chequered flag in third place at Hockenheim, safeguarding his sixth place in the championship's final rankings. Unfortunately after the race the car was excluded from the results due to a shortage of fuel in the tank. Laurens Vanthoor is also looking to compete in the European F3 championship next season.
"Actually my weekend didn't start off on a high, as qualifying didn't go as expected." On Friday evening the RACB National Team Driver clocked up a sixth time in qualifying, but he was not satisfied with that: "The track was very cold and I hardly had any grip at all. I was hoping for a top-3, so no way can I be happy with this result. Tomorrow will be an entirely different day, as they are forecasting rain."
The first race was in fact run in the rain, but once again Laurens Vanthoor fought with his F3. The Signature driver once more had to content himself with a sixth place and he was disappointed. "I was at least hoping to score a podium and I was rather surprised that it didn't come off, because I enjoy the rain. But obviously the set-up wasn't perfect, which meant that I didn't loose any places, but neither did I gain any. I'm now going to sit down with the team and try to find a solution so that I can come up with a strong result tomorrow. I truly want to finish off this European season in full confidence prior to travelling over to Asia for the races in Korea and Macau."
The final European race of the season on Sunday ran smoothly and Laurens Vanthoor climbed up on to the podium in third place, his fifth of the season.
Laurens Vanthoor: "I experienced a very difficult race, starting off with a poor start, after which I managed to climb back up and secure third spot. After that everything appeared to be going smoothly, but problems with the steering and later the fuel supply didn't make matters any easier for me. I finished in third place and that's how I see it. Due to the fuel problem I was excluded from the race, but that makes no difference to me. In highly difficult conditions I clocked up some great lap times and finished third, and to me that counts as a perfect ending to the season."
For Laurens Vanthoor the season is not over yet, as later on this year he is travelling on over to Asia for the races in Korea and Macau, and we will keep you fully informed in due course.
