Antonio Giovinazzi converted pole position into his sixth victory of the season in Race 2 at Hockenheim, securing the runner-up spot in the standings.
The Carlin driver survived two safety car restarts and the advances of Prema duo Jake Dennis and Felix Rosenqvist to stop the Italian squad from taking their eighth consecutive victory in the series.
Front row starters Giovinazzi and Dennis entered Turn 1 side-by-side with the Italian keeping the lead by running wide, and forcing the Prema driver to take the outside line into the hairpin later on.
With the Italian completing the first lap in the lead, the safety car came out when Signature's Alex Albon braked on the kerbs, lost control and crashed out at Nordkurve.
After the restart, the green flags were back out for a handful of corners before a collision between Nabil Jeffri and Tatiana Calderon left the former’s car stranded in the hairpin runoff.
Giovinazzi confidently pulled away at the second restart but soon came under pressure from Rosenqvist as the Swede had gotten past Dennis.
Running wide at the hairpin, Giovinazzi almost gifted the lead to Rosenqvist but the Italian held on and slowly started to increase his lead.
Dennis then took second back from the Swede but with four minutes left on the clock, Giovinazzi was untroubled in taking the chequered flag.
New Prema recruit Maximilian Gunther repeated his race one result in fourth by narrowly keeping Alexander Sims at bay on the second restart as the top seven was completed by Mucke’s Mikkel Jensen and Ferrari junior Lance Stroll.
Sergio Sette Camara kept George Russell behind to secure eighth with Markus Pommer in 10th and Charles Leclerc in 11th.
Although the Monegasque driver still scored a point due to Sims' status as a guest driver, he fell behind Dennis in the standings by 5.5 points.
