MORTARA STORMS FANTASTIC VICTORY AT BARCELONA

Signature team driver Edoardo Mortara has won the opening formula 3 Euroseries race at Barcelona. The 20 year old started from sixth place on the grid, which became fifth when another competitor dropped ten places after an engine change.

A lightning start in wet conditions took him up to second by the first corner, behind German Nico Hulkenberg. On lap 10, race leader made a mistake under pressure from Mortara and the French Italian driver took the lead keeping from then a solid pace. He drove faultlessly to the finish to claim his second win of the year and the first ever victory for a rookie on a Saturday's race. The result propels him to second in the rookie's championship and eighth in the overall standings.

He said: "it is a perfect result for me and for the Signature team, which has done a fantastic job all weekend so far. I had a really good feeling with the car, and I am aiming to maintain this in race two tomorrow. I am really enjoying it but I want to keep focus on the job we need to achieve tomorrow and on the last two meetings of the season".

Edoardo's next race will be at Barcelona tomorrow.

Full report to follow on Sunday night.
