Spengler On The Podium!
Montreal, Canada, July 4, 2004 -- Canadian race car driver Bruno Spengler, the ambassador of the Casino of Montreal and member of the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team, drove another brilliant race today and climbed on the podium in Round 12 of the Euro Formula 3 Series held in Magny-Cours during the F1 Grand Prix of France. For Spengler, it was a first podium appearance this season.
The driver of the #3 Dallara-Mercedes of German team Mucke Motorsport, drove a strong race and crossed the line in third position, just 5.1 seconds behind race winner Alexandre Premat and Nico Rosberg.
"I took another fantastic start and I powered ahead of Eric Salignon and Nicolas Lapierre before we reached the first corner," said Spengler. "I was running in third place but Lapierre was fast and was pushing me very hard. However, as the race progressed, my car became faster while his ran a bit slower."
Meanwhile out in front, Premat and Rosberg ran away from the rest of the field. "I pushed hard to catch them but we were running similar lap times. They were too far in front of me," said the 20-year old Canadian.
Spengler is satisfied with the performance of his car and the work accomplished by Mucke Motorsport. "Since the last two or three races, the car is much faster because we worked extremely hard on it," Spengler explained. "We changed the set-up and the car now runs faster and is more consistent. Here, I progressed well over the course of the weekend and this podium and the six championship points are a fine reward for all this hard work."
