Erik Janis is going to race as a Mercedes Benz factory pilot next year, in Euroserie F3. He became a member of stall ASL - Team Mucke Motosport. Janis's manager Antonin Charouz and Hans-Jurgen Mattheis, one of the directors in factory team Mercedes Benz HWA, said it today in Prague. Twenty-year-old racer got to the championship which is taken as one of the main steps into the highest monopost cathegories - including F1.

Erik Janis "was present" at press conference in Prague Villa Barrandov during the tele-bridge. From A1GP race in Malaysia he straightly moved to Portugal where he tested F3 monopost at Braga and Estoril circuits. He didn't know till the last moment what would the managers tell him.

"Well - what do you think about it, Erik," said Antonin Charouz after the publication of the news. "It is splendid, really," was the spontaneous reaction of European go-karts exchampion. "Thanks a lot for such an oportunity. I will do everything not to dissapoint your faith," answered Erik Jani?. Then he listened to the questions of journalists in full Villa Barrandov.

Euroserie F3 began in 2003, its birth is the work of two national series organizers - German and French. From the beginning it is a respected cathegory from which the best pilots go to the highest world cathegories, including F1.

Let's mention for example Lewis Hamilton, Christian Klien, Robert Kubica, Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil or Markus Winkelhock - riders who after the success in European F3 got into the dreamt-of world Grand Prix. Polish star Kubica rode in 2004 in Peter Mucke team, it means in a stall where Jani? rides now. This group battled for a title till the last race this year. Swiss Sebastien Buemi finally became a vice-champion.

Euroserie F3 competitons are traditionally ridden as a part of popular DTM cars championship. One of the double-races, in French Pau, will be a part of world champion WTCC cars. Czech fans know rough battles of youths from the Galaxie Sport tv. Transmission will go in new year, too. "We deal about it with Czech tv," said Antonin Charouz.

Erik Janis: "I'm very happy, really. Euroserie F3 is my dreamt-of championship. I will do everything not to dissapoint the faith of my manager Antonin Charouz and my factory team Mercedes Benz HWA. I test hard with F3. Now I'm in Portugal Estoril. I have still better feeling from the car. Though I have smaller motor achievement, on the other side I have much better undercart. Many riders don't speak very nice about F3 - they say it is not good for riding. But I do not agree. I have still better feeling about control and I'm looking forward every next kilometer. I'm highly satisfied with Peter Mucke team. The co-operation is fine, they are real professionals."

Antonin Charouz: "I'm glad that Erik's talent took the chieves of Mercedes Benz HWA team which is one of the world's best stall. Erik has two-year contract as Mercedes Benz HWA junior. The same type of contract had e.g. nowadays F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton which won Euroserie in 2005. About Erik's continuance in A1GP: he will not continue in the rest of this year races, he will concentrate on preparing for F3 now. It still isn't clear who will substitute him and when."

Hans-Jurgen Mattheis: "Erik Janis is extraordinarily talented racer, that's why we have chosen him for our junior programme. I think we can get great outcomes with him. He will have all the care from our stall and I'm sure he will be able to make the best of it. The information from his testing are very positive. He is the first junior for following year, next names will be known after December the 15th."
