FIRST MEETING OF THE F3 EUROSERIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Double F3 Euroseries winning outfit in 2004/05, ASM, expected their rivals to make life hard for them at the Hockenheim circuit this weekend where the inaugural round of the 2006 F3 Euroseries Championship took place, but they walked away at the end of the weekend with mixed feelings. A brilliant first win for Sebastian Vettel and a podium for Paul di Resta on the positive side while on the negative side they had a few issues with some of their drivers, which seriously hurt the team's overall final result, leaving them in second place in the teams championship with 18 points. Meanwhile, Sebastian's win saw him finish the weekend 2nd in the drivers classification, with 10 points.

Frederic Vasseur:

"We expected to suffer a little bit in Hockenheim, and this was the case. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us and it will now be necessary to correct the situation. We finished the weekend optimistic thanks to Sebastian's victory, but we had the potential to do better which I hope will be the case at the Lausitz Eurospeedway.

Sebastian Vettel:

"It was a difficult weekend overall, starting with qualifying, where I could not do better than 7th place. It was not an easy task to improve the car or my position in the first race, so to finish in 5th place was a good result. I was better placed on the grid in the second race, I made an excellent start, but the track was cold and had very little grip, and as such I made a few mistakes under braking. I finally succeeded in winning my first race, which was fantastic, but it was very close. I think that overall, Manor was more competitive than we were this weekend, but I am convinced that the team will progress in the coming weeks and we will be much stronger in the future."

Kamui Kobayashi :

"The first race was encouraging with some solid points, but I am disappointed that I made a mistake in the second, because 2nd place was within my range. The team worked well and there will be even better things to come in the future. It is important that we continue our work and progress."

Paul di Resta:

"The final result is not as good as it could have been. We improved the car significantly between qualifying and race 1, in which I had a really good start. After the safety car period I was in 4th position and I gained a place when Giedo left the track. A podium for the opening race of the season was a good result, which should have been supplemented by a bigger points haul in the second round, but unfortunately I had an accident when I was in 2nd place."

Giedo Van Der Garde:

" We could return account to us that our competitors progressed well this winter, but I was satisfied with my 3rd place in qualifying. I had a good start and was still well placed after the safety car period, but I hit a kerb and ended up off track after spinning out of second place. It was a shame because the podium was definitely in my sights. The second race was very interesting; I had an excellent start from the back of the grid and quickly found myself in 12th place. I managed to gain a few more positions after that, but finished outside the points, in 7th place, 4 seconds behind the winner. Too bad! It is regrettable that I leave empty handed when we had the potential to score some really good points."
