The 17th season round of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship brought victory for Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam). At the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring, the Brit won the dash towards the first corner from Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) and drove an undisputed victory home.

Marciello, a protégé of the Ferrari Driver Academy, was classified second from Alexander Sims (ThreeBond with T-Sport), who scored the maiden podium finish for his team in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship upon his return to the category. In the drivers’ standings, Marciello now has an advantage of 70.5 points from runner-up Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport).

While Alex Lynn’s first place wasn’t jeopardized after the first lap anymore, there was a three-way battle for second place with Felix Rosenqvist, Raffaele Marciello and Alexander Sims. Rosenqvist, who was still racing under appeal, came out on top in the battle for second place, but isn’t classified until the decision about the appeal has been reached. Thus, second place went to Raffaele Marciello after a thrilling battle with Alexander Sims. The latter ended up third.

Especially in the opening stages, the spectators got to see nice position fights from the young drivers in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Luis Felipe Derani (Fortec Motorsports) and Félix Serrallés (Fortec Motorsports) battled for fifth place, which eventually went to Brazilian Derani. Tom Blomqvist (Eurointernational), Harry Tincknell (Carlin), Jordan King (Carlin), Michael Lewis (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) and novice Nick Cassidy (Eurointernational) rounded out the top ten.

Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam): “My start was very good and in the Grundig hairpin, I took the lead right away. Then, I tried to pull a gap over Felix Rosenqvist behind me, but that wasn’t easy. When Alexander Sims started to fight with Felix, I was able to extend my lead. That was good, because the first cars were there to be lapped just after that.”

Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam): “My start was really bad, I dropped back to fifth. After that, I gave everything to move up to the front again. From that point of view, second place wasn’t too bad. I hope to have a better start tomorrow when I will be starting from pole position again.”

Alexander Sims (ThreeBond with T-Sport): “My comeback in Formula 3 was good and my car had a really good pace. Battling with the top drivers of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship was great fun.”
