Rookies dominate season opener in Virginia

Joey Atterbury and Jake Thompson are the winners on the opening race weekend of the second season of the Volkswagen Jetta-TDI-Cup in the USA. As a result, it was not the experienced drivers who prevailed at the Virginia International Raceway in Virginia, but in fact newcomers to the Volkswagen one-make cup. In the first race on Saturday Atterbury was followed home by Rookies AJ Nealy and Timmy Megenbier in second and third places respectively. On Sunday it was Mark Pombo and Taylor Broekemeier who looked on in the wake of Thompsons convincing win in the well represented 25 car field.

Volkswagen teams prepare for the season start at Hockenheim]

Dress rehearsal for the Volkswagen drivers contesting the Formula 3 Euro Series: On Wednesday and Thursday this week the "stars of tomorrow" meet for tests at Val de Vienne, France. Among the field are the three Volkswagen teams Signature, Kolles & Heinz Union and also Carlin Motorsport with their drivers signed for the season. The focus of attention around the 3.757 kilometre track are tests with the new aerodynamic package from Dallara as well as general set-up work of the near 210 hp Dallara F309-Volkswagen. The 2009 Formula 3 Euro Series season, in which a total of seven drivers "powered by Volkswagen" line-up on the grid, begins at Hockenheim between 15 and 17 May.

Volkswagen Scirocco Biogas is ready for debut in Sweden

The newly developed Volkswagen Scirocco Biogas is ready for its premiere in the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) this coming weekend (1-2 May) at Mantorp Park. During tests at Gelleraasen, Mantorp Park and Knutstorp the drivers Fredrik Ekblom (S) and Patrik Olsson (S) had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their new machines. The near 280 hp Scirocco, which is powered by innovative Biogas, also square up to the STCC competition for the first time on Friday and Saturday. In the Junior Touring Car Championship (JTCC), held on the same weekend, 18-year old Niclas Olsson (S), who raced in the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup in Germany last year, takes to the grid in one of several Volkswagen Golf.

24-Hour Race on the Nurburgring 2009
With two Scirocco in third test race around the Nordschleife

Volkswagen starts the third round of the BFGoodrich Endurance Championship on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife with two Scirocco GT24, one powered by conventional gasoline and one with Natural Gas (CNG). In the third and final test race for the 24-hour race Nurburgring (20-24 May) the powerful 315 hp Scirocco GT24 is driven by two-time rally World Champion Carlos Sainz (E), single-seater ace Franck Mailleux (F) and ex-DTM driver Vanina Ickx (B). Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg (D), Member of the Board of Volkswagen AG with responsibility for Technical Development of the Volkswagen brand, as well as the two journalists Bernd Ostmann (D) and Peter Wyss (CH) will share driving duties at the wheel of the 282 hp Scirocco GT24-CNG. Volkswagen will enter three Scirocco GT24 and two Scirocco GT24-CNG in the endurance classic "twice around the clock".
