Today at 16 :0050 cars started the Spa-Francorchamps 24-Hour race. Yesterday, Mike Hezemans set pole in the GT1 category in his Corvette C6.R entered by Phoenix Carsport Holland.

In GT2, Gianmaria Bruni (AF Corse Motorola Ferrari) was quickest in 2m 21.429s on Thursday, his first GT2 pole as this time was not beaten on Friday.

After 6 hours' racing Michelin leads the GT1 category with the Jet Alliance Racing Aston Martin driven by Robert Lechner. In GT2, the Clermont Ferrand manufacturer is second with the AF Corse Motorola team.

Matthieu Bonardel: the Michelin 4 wheel competitions manager

"All our cars started on slicks as the track was dry. The teams opted for medium or soft compounds. Hard rubber was only a possibility if the track temperature was in the 30Cs.

In GT1, there was no miracle solution but with the right set-up for the soft tyres the cars were very quick early on. The track soon rubbered in and while everybody did not progress in the same fashion; the improvements were around 1 second per lap.

We've begun double stinting with some of our partners even if the appearance of this safety car upset things a little.

We're very happy with our soft compounds good news here at Spa! We've found a tyre that's both quick and long lasting with no performance fall-off.

Our partners can choose from many products but the quantity is well defined. Soft rubber is generally better at night. But despite this, some teams have already made inroads into their stock in qualifying and at the start of the race.

We think it's going to rain soon, so our task will be to manage the stock of soft rubber as long as the track stays dry, and then choose the right compound depending on how heavy the rain is."

Robert Lechner Jetalliance

"We're very happy with both our car's and tyre's performance. Since the start of the season we've always found the right compound with Michelin.

We're going to try and double-stint during the night. The Michelin tyre's performance is very consistent, and I hope it'll continue like that!"
